song of achilles - Madeline Miller

RATING: 5/5

"Name one hero that was happy"

This book killed me. I am dead. I have got to say this is my favourite book of all time. The history in this book just felt so real. It really did feel like I was there, it was so amazing. It didn't feel weird seeing them do all these things that we don't do anymore, it felt so... natural. Like this was the author's life and it was completely normal. It just felt so real. I loved it. This book is amazing

I loved their relationship so much. Both of their character arcs were amazing, they just fit together so perfectly. I can't imagine this story where they were not together, so I think reading the Illiad would be interesting.

Madeline Miller's writing was just so beautiful and honestly perfect for this story. The fact that we see both of them grow up and come together was a huge part of why I loved this book. Seeing them go from boys to men was just such a fun experience and I loved it. I love this book,  and I can't really put it into words. Which is why this review is going to be bad sorry.

I started crying (on the bus btw) was when Ajax got shot with the arrow. I really liked him and it was just so scary. Achilles would have let Ajax die, for his pride, when he was such a good person, He would have let him die, would have let Bersius get whored, that was terrifying. I was so scared for him, what he did, it did make sense, and it was all just was muddled up in confusion. They could have won the war much earlier, and that's what made me so frustrated. I think when people have not read this book, they think of Achilles so differently.

I was so happy at the beginning. They were all so happy together, living with Chiron, learning, just being normal boys. They were so happy, everything was just so happy. It was blissful. But of course, they went to war.

When Patroclus started tending to the sick, that made me really happy. Finally, he was putting himself to use and stopped feeling under Achilles' shadow. I also loved that moment, when Berisus was standing on the platform, and Achilles saved her, and who she became. I was so proud of him, and I am proud of her. She shouldn't have died that death, it was too terrible, she was too wonderful to have died that way. But I guess we expected it.

I hate Achilles' son. with everything in me. What he did to Patroclus. What he did to Brosius. How he acted. How he treated everyone. I hated him.

Now, Achilles' mother. I don't know how I feel, I really liked her in the end, and I understand that she did everything for Achilles, but her not supporting their relationship, I didn't like that.

FUNNY MOMENTS:
- When Patroclus and Achilles in a dress, and is shocked for a moment, but when he wears it every day he acts like it is completely normal
- "catch"
- When Achilles told Patroclus, "she can't see us"... I MEAN C'MON
- When Patroclus had to explain to Bersius he wasn't going to whore her, and he just kisses Achilles right then and there. Just like 'LOOK OKAY, IM GAY, NOT GONNA HURT YOUUU'
- And how Achilles just carried on and acted like it was completely normal to kiss in front of a stranger in those times... But then again, the greeks were REALLY GAYYYY

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 5/5
I read this by audiobook and is the reason why I don't know how to spell the names. The narrator was soooooooo good, he did the voices so well, it was amazing.

I am sorry that this wasn't the best review, I read this book quite a while ago, so this review is quite old. I am planning on re-reading this book (because it is still my favourite)
