October tbr :)
So I want to start doing tbr (to-be-reads) to my blog so that I can keep myself accountable for which books I've read this year. This year has probably been one of my worse years for reading, cause I've only read 20 books so far (*gasp* I know). But this month I've really been wanting to read fantasy and historical fiction. A lot of books that I am halfway through reading will be put on this list, I'm trying to finish them all, and then start fresh. So a lot of these books I should be finishing soon since I am basically halfway through them all. Anyways, I am going on a tangent, here is my tbr :D
CROOKED KINGDOM - LEIGH BARDUGO
Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to Leigh Bardugo's Six of crows, this duology is a continuation of the shadow and bone trilogy, but instead, we follow a band of thieves in a ruthless city travelling all the way to the unbreakable ice court to get the bounty of their lifetime. Enough kruge to settle all their debts, and live comfortably after. An addictive story, characters and world.
I'm so excited to finally get to this, I was going to read the shadow and gone trilogy first, but honestly, I give up. It's just not as good as this story. This one is so good, and I'm almost done actually, and all I can say is that it is just so amazing. I wish there was a third book because I just love these characters so much. My girlfriend is probably so sick of me talking about how cute Wayland and Jesper are, but I just can't get over them. I'm so excited to finish this. I love this series. HIGHLY recommend. If you love unique fantasy world with amazing characters and just a perfect plot, you should definitely consider reading this. It's just so amazing, and the writing is absolutely fantastic.
CIRCE - MADELINE MILLER
This book follows the greek legend of Circe, a sorceress sent to a deserted island to pay for her crimes. It follows her life before and after magic and is just another amazing novel by Madeline Miller.
So I've already read song of Achilles, and it is one of my favourite books of all time. So the obvious choice is to read another book by the amazing Madeline Miller. I am already around 1/2 in, and I am really enjoying it so far. I'm reading this via audiobook because I read song of Achilles like that too.
WHAT IF IT'S US - BECKY ALBERTALLI AND ADAM SILVERA
Ben has a box, Arthur just has no idea what he is doing.
New York is a big city and no one seems to talk here. Everyone's looking at their phones, on a call and seem to not be aware of all the lives passing around them. Everything is too fast, and Arthur just wants to be a stereotypical tourist without being judged. The breakup is all Ben can think about, and carrying this box of memories to the post office isn't any help. He just wants to get rid of it as fast as he can, but the universe clearly has something against him because twins with man buns and jumpsuits are walking past and New York is just so weird.
I've always wanted to read an Adam Silvera novel, so I am so excited to read this. I didn't really like Becky Albertalli's Simon and the Homosapiens agenda (which is a controversial opinion I know, my girlfriend loved it and I can feel her judgement every time I say I didn't enjoy it). I hope it's as good as everyone says it is, my expectations are quite high :)
WAYWARD SON - RAINBOW ROWELL
Wayward Son is the sequel to Rainbow Rowell's novel Carry on, and I'm so excited to read it. Carry on is the fanfiction that Kat writes in Rainbow Rowell's other book Fangirl, and I've got to say, I liked Carry On a lot more than Fangirl. This book is basically Harry Potter in an alternate universe. But somehow, Rainbow Rowell still managed to make it more original. It's also queer :D so if you are looking for a romance based fantasy novel, you should definitely pick this up. You don't have to have read Fangirl to read this, I didn't because I didn't really like Fangirl (sorry to the ones who loved it). I really enjoyed Carry on, so I'm so excited to pick this one up.
THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO - TAYLOR JENKINS REID
I'm not exactly in a historical fiction mood, so I might not pick this one up, but I thought I would put it here anyway. This book has been so hyped so I wouldn't be surprised if you are sick of hearing about it. But the basic premise of this book is that there is this old lady who used to be insanely famous (I imagine her as an old Marylin Monroe), who has had 7 husbands. She hires this young journalist, and I'm assuming she tells her life story to her. I think she also might be queer? I'm not sure.
THIS SAVAGE SONG - VICTORIA SCHWAB
I've wanted to read some of Victoria Schwab's books for so long, and I definitely would have read some by now if it wasn't for the fact that the bookstores here for some reason don't seem to stock her. So instead I asked my school librarian (an absolute legend, we recommended like 30 books to her and she got them all, like how?). So anyway, she got a bunch of the Schwab books I asked her for and I'm so excited to read these. I don't know a lot about this book, other than it's a fantasy, which I'm definitely in the mood for right now. I'm super excited to read this, I just hope it lives up to the hype.
Okay, so there are six books in total, which I think I should be able to do because I've got half term break and quite a lot of plain rides. It's still the beginning of the month and I've already read 3 of these books (it's the 8th right now). I should be posting those reviews soon :)
