A further deep dive into classics ft. the outlandish British upper class

Hey everyone! It's been a hot minute but I'm back! Since my last post, I've been in a slight reading slump (I think I jinxed myself when I said that I'm going to be finishing my Goodreads reading challenge soon oops). When I'm in a reading slump, I tend to pick up a lot of books and starting but never finishing them. It doesn't mean that I'm not enjoying them though, in fact, I'm really enjoying my current reads so I've decided to share the classics, hope you enjoy:

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY - OSCAR WILDE

The Picture of Dorian Gray
I am absolutely loving this book! I'm currently about 1/3 the way through, and the only reason why it is taking me a while is that it requires a lot of concentration to read. The characters (specifically Lord Henry) are quite philosophical, and they often go on these tangents which requires 100% of my attention. The writing is so beautiful and I definitely plan on reading some of Oscar Wilde's other works.
In this book, we follow our three main characters: Basil Hallward, Lord Henry Wotton and, of course, Dorian Gray. This book in a whole is a commentary on the impermanency of youth and beauty in the Victorian era. I just absolutely love these Victorian novels about life in the upper class, so if you like those kinds of books, I highly recommend this :)

JANE EYRE - CHARLOTTE BRONTË
Tom Ruffles: Fairy Story Elements in Jane Eyre
I am absolutely adoring this book!! We don't see a lot of characters like Jane Eyre in classics (at least the ones I've read) and that is one of the reasons I love reading about her. She is an average looking girl, with a love for painting and a heart that often lands her in some pretty sticky situations. I loved hearing about how Jane found her way in the world, even though she grew up in some unfortunately fortunate circumstances. Jane Eyre grew up around evil little children and a spiteful aunt, and at the age of 10, she was sent off to a boarding school. We follow her as she strives to better herself and her circumstance when she arrives at Thornfield Hall, where a mystery unfolds. Absolutely loving this book so far.

(since writing this paragraph, I have finished the book. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although I am slightly disappointed)

MANSFIELD PARK - JANE AUSTEN

Mansfield Park (1814) - Jane Austen - WattpadI'm quite torn about this book, I can't decide whether I am enjoying it or not. This book follows young Fanny Price as she is adopted by her aunt and uncle. Fanny grows up being rejected and pushed aside by her cousins, except for one. She is suddenly dragged into the glamour of London, where she continues to be pushed aside.

I wish I had read another one of Jane Austen work's before this one, the characters don't have a lot of depth and the plot is a bit messy if I'm totally honest. I've only read Pride and Prejudice, but I definitely prefer that one so far. I hope that my feelings will change by the end of the book.

That's really it for the classics I'm currently reading! This was a really short post, but I'll be updating you sooner or later, I'll probably do a recommendations soon :) I've also completed my reading goal already! It was 40 at the start of the year, but now I've increased it to 60, meaning I have to read a books a week from now on, wish me luck?

PS: I've reread Red White And Royal Blue and Carry On for the third time, please, no judgement, I already know.
