An anime and book melting pot

Alright, this is a book blog, but my latest obsession has been A N I M E. I have been spending (wasting) so much time watching anime,, so I have decided I'll write one of those 'If you like this, you'll like this' type of thing. I'm going to choosing some of my favourite animes and then recommending you a book according to it. HERE WE GO! I'M HIGHKEY EXCITED

ハイキュー!! (HAIKYU!!)

So unless you've been living under a rock, you have probably heard of this anime. The premise of this anime, is honestly, 'boys play volleyball and are oddly obsessed with the game'. But it is seriously one of my favourites so I shouldn't talk. My favourite thing about Haikyuu is definitely the team dynamic combined with THE MOST EPIC matches. They are so intense and you're just sitting there reading the subtitles like a maniac cause you get oddly attached to these volleyball obsessed teenage boys.

JUST LOOK AT HOW CUTE THEY ARE. Okay, I'm fangirling, really sorry. In the first season, we mainly focus on the ICONIC duo that is Kageyama (black hair standing behind orange hair) and Hinata (orange hair). Hinata is super short (165 cm), but he wants to become a really good volleyball player (volleyball players are usually really tall). Hinata is just such a bean and will do anything to become a spiker, though everyone doubts him. Then we have Kageyama. Kageyama is SUPER judgemental, mean, has no personality, expects too much from the people around him, selfish,... BUT I LOVE HIM. He is honestly one of my favourite characters. Honestly, how could you not love him? ANYWAYS, when Hinata and Kageyama first meet, they are rivals, but as time goes by, they become more like proper teammates, and really, friends.

OKAY WELL HERE IS THE BOOK I RECCOMEND: The foxhole court - Nora Sakavic

This is a trilogy btw. This book also follows a team!! and Sports!!! but in addition, we have MAFIA whoop whoop!!! and murder!!! This book follows Neil, a guy on the run from his past, as he somehow gets convinced to join one of the most high profile exy (a made up sport, trust me it's so cool) teams. The Foxes. The foxes are a team full of college-aged students, who have all done something bad/had bad things have happened to them, but they have come together on this team. PLUS, we have queer representation whoop whoop!! A lot of people who watch Haikyuu (including myself) all have their favourite ship in the series (AAAAH KAGEHINA AND TSUKIYAMA AAAAH),, but here,, they actually end up getting together!! I'm not going to spoil it, but trust me, it's amazing.

The only thing about this series is that the morals are definitely questionable, so if you are triggered easily, I don't recommend it.

NARUTO/ NARUTO SHIPPUDEN

I'm still only halfway through Shippuden, so I'm tentatively adding this in. This was the anime that got me into anime. I absolutely love Naruto, and honestly, it just makes me feel really happy. All of the episodes are so good (yes even the filler,, yes I am still skipping Shippuden filler shut up). This is another series with amazing characters, and I just love them so much. In this anime, we follower Naruto (duh), a boy shunned by the rest of his village because he has a 'demon' sealed away inside of him. This, however, has never discouraged him, and it is his dream to one day become Hokage of the village.

The first Naruto series, is definitely for a younger audience (lol didn't stop be from watching it) as he is around 14 years old. However, in Shippuden, he is 16-17, so it's suitable for teenagers. This story is great if you like action, adventure, and NINJAS WOAH THEY ARE SO COOL. If you like naruto, you probably enjoy long series that follows a set of characters for a long time, so that's why I recommend...

WHAT I RECOMMEND FOR NARUTO: Percy Jackson + Heroes of Olympus - Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson follows a boy named Percy Jackson (duh), who hasn't felt normal his whole life. He has been diagnosed with ADHD and weird shit just keeps on happening to him. He has been to more schools than he can count, and they just keep of kicking him out for behaviour he can't control. That's until everything is explained to him, and he gets dragged into this world of GREEK MYTHOLOGY. If you are greek mythology nerd (like I was) it was probably cause you read Percy Jackson as a kid. Percy Jackson just has amazing characters, it's just such a great, feel-good, adventure story. Similarly to Naruto, Percy Jackson (the first series) is for a younger audience, and Heroes of Olympus is for an older audience. Didn't stop me from reading it though ehehe.

BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA - MY HERO ACADEMIA

I honestly can't tell you how many times I've heard/seen references to this anime, so I had to watch. AND OMG IT'S SO GOOD, FANTASTIC. In this anime, we follow Izuku Midoriya, who has always dreamed about becoming a hero, but he is quirkless. In a world where 80% of ordinary people have 'quirks', being quirkless felt like the worst thing that could have ever happened to him. But he still believed that he could become a hero without a quirk, and the way to do that was to get into UA, the top school for heroes. And when he unexpectantly meets All Might (the #1 hero), things are looking up for quirkless Midoriya. This anime also has AMAZING characters and action.

THE BOOK I RECCOMEND: Lunar Chronicles (or Renegades) - Marrisa Meyer

Alright, this is probably the most far fetched one, but hear me out. Lunar chronicles is a sci-fi (My Hero is not a sci-fi I know) and it doesn't take place in a school (My hero does), BUT, what I'm trying to get at, is the group dynamic. And I think Lunar chronicles has such a great group dynamic. I KNOW IT'S FAR FETCHED. And honestly, if what you like about My Hero is the super heroes, you should read Marrisa Meyer's other book, Renegades. Another superhero society! Okay, basically I'm saying you should read that one if you like My Hero, but I can't tell you to read it cause... I haven't read Renegades oop. ANYWAYS BACK TO LUNAR CHRONICLES. In the series, each book is based on a fairy tale, and it's just so cool. You've got this evil force (like in My Hero!!! See!! Some connection!!) from the moon (yes the moon, it's v cool) the build-up of the plot throughout this story was just so masterfully done, and it's just so hype. I don't know how to explain it.

Anyways that's it for this long blog post (yes I did write it in one sitting. Yes I did give up at the end). As you can tell, I've started to write way more casually on this blog. I'm going to be switching up my writing style here and there to see what I like, but since this post was about anime, I decided to go a bit more casual since I was going to fangirl anyways. On other posts, I will probably go back to using a more formal register again, especially if I'm writing about classics/literature. Hope you all have a nice day!!! Okie bye bye I'm going to go eat lunch.
